Who are the elves?

Actually, the elves are small creatures, fairies and such a kind of will-o'-the-wisps, which sometimes look like simple fireflies to the unimaginative observer. Or do they not? Such a nightmare, such an alb dream then already appears like a spawn of hell. Like almost all old mythical creatures, the albas are divided into good and evil, into light and black albas. The albas have accompanied us ordinary mortals since the time of the Old Norse. The black albs are blacker than pitch and the light albs are more beautiful than the sun, it was said. By the way, the Albs live in Álfheimr, the "world of the Albs" or the dwelling of Freyr, an unnamable god who lives in Asgard. Sacrifices were offered to the Albs or Elves, they were sometimes equated with demons and sometimes with fairies. So much for the Norse saga world, where the Albs were considered quite powerful. These cute little elves, winged around, are a more recent invention, probably by Shakespeare and other writers.

The Elves of Tolkien are the true descendants

The great writer Tolkien could not stand the idea of sweet little winged elves. He considered this picture an inappropriate belittlement. We fully agree with this. Elves are in principle immortal, they are therefore mostly wise.
