In the Middle Ages, each profession wore its typical trousers mostly in earthy tones or natural colours. They should not hinder the performance of the respective activity. Landsknechts or sailors like the Vikings wore coloured or black and white knee breeches or baggy trousers, depending on their financial resources. These had to provide room for wild fighting or boarding the sails. These baggy trousers for Vikings from the late Middle Ages are particularly comfortable and preserve legroom optimally. For everyday wear, the precious brocade and the tight lacing would have been too delicate. In everyday life, then, it was more common to fall back on wide and comfortable trousers in the cut of the Thorsberg trousers.
