Skjoldehamn Viking Hood

Do you want the authentic look of the hood, but don't need the warmth of wool? This linen hood based on an extant garment might be just what you're looking for.

The Skjoldehamn Hood is a well-preserved piece of medieval clothing discovered in a bog in Skjoldehamn, Norway, in 1936. The hood was part of a full burial, including a tunic, trousers, and other textile fragments. It dates to the late Viking Age or early medieval period (circa 995-1050 CE). The hood is made up of rectangular and triangular panels. Made of wool, it offered warmth and protection from elements such as wind, rain and cold.

Today, reenactors, SCAdians, LARPers and other historical costumers are often battling the elements of heat and sun. This reproduction is made in 100% linen, and is designed to help keep the wearer cool and block out the sun, while also giving the authentic look by preserving the cut of the original hood.

Linen is a natural fibre which is soft and comfortable to wear against the skin. It helps wick moisture away and is a cooling fabric to wear— perfect for hot summer events.
